Joy and Inspiration Performance Dates: May 9th, 10th, and 11th We are so excited for you to be a part of CAStLE’s production of our Spring Production. It is going to be a wonderful theatrical experience. You will certainly learn a lot and hopefully have a ton of fun. But along with all the fun, and learning, comes a great deal of hard work, sacrifice, and time spent at rehearsal and then memorizing and practicing at home. Participation in this production is optional and the commitment is big - so please be thoughtful before joining us.
Rehearsals: 4:05-6 PM Mon - Fri from March 6th to April 26th. 4:05-7 PM Mon-Fri from April 29th- Until Performances. (The last two weeks’ rehearsals until Performance), are mandatory and no reason for absences, (except for an emergency), will be accepted!
We will have a weekly calendar so actors may be “called” on different days. If you are called it is an expectation you will be at rehearsal and prepared. If you are not called you are still welcome to join us – but it is not expected. When the cast is not “on stage” actively working on their numbers, the expectation is they will be actively involved in technical and production prep for the show.
I am more than happy to excuse one rehearsal a week for other commitments or accommodate an early release, or late arrival, on some days but I MUST know about them ahead of time. And again, with the understanding that the last two weeks of rehearsals are CRUCIAL and MANDATORY.
Techies will not be needed until March 6th. But they will not be expected at each rehearsal until Mandatories start April 29th. Any, and all, after school support is welcome. Tech work is ongoing and per project needs.
We will have three build days. They are all an expectation of being a part of this production. Your help is integral to the success of our set being ready. The final build day is MANDATORY. They will be on March 23rd from 10-3 PM, April 20th from 10-3 PM, and May 4st (our load in day) from 12-8 PM. We will also have a MANDATORY rehearsal on Saturday, May 4th from 10 AM-12 PM followed by our MANDATORY technical build day from 12-to 8 PM.
For this production to be successful, all of us must be committed to it through the entire process this includes our build days and our Strike after the final performance on Saturday, May 11h.. A Snack to share is also required on build days to ensure everyone is well fed.
Make sure you can attend the rehearsals, make sure you can be on time, and make sure that you can still do all the other stuff you are supposed to do, like schoolwork, homework, chores, family time, rest, relaxation, etc. Before committing to this production. And seniors must meet graduation and Cambridge class requirements.
Fees: Mounting this show will be bigger than most and we all need to contribute. We are still in the process of building our theatre department. Last show we were able to purchase six LEDs. Sadly, this does not come cheaply, and we need more. Fees, just like in sports, other after-care programs, and private music lessons, is an expectation for participating in this production. We have done much research and we feel the amount we are asking for is fair and reasonable compared to a variety of other theatre education programs in the Salt Lake Valley. Luckily, City Academy students are eligible for a reduced or free lunch sliding scale.
Unfortunately, we cannot make that same offer to our other community participants. I want to allow everyone who wants to be involved to come play with us - no matter what their financial situation - but that is not an option now. I do offer payment arrangements and we can make monthly payment arrangements if needed. We are very flexible and will work hard to have kids who want to participate do so.
Also, each company member must sell a single ad for our Pay Bill program. The cheapest ad cost is $25 dollars. We believe this is a great life skill for our students and helps to build publicity and community relations. It also pays for our programs.
Lastly, students must sell 5 tickets.
The fees do include a production shirt, a production and stage manager, a professional theatre director, performance notes from another professional director, and access to a production video, bio and production photos, and a program, along with real, project based, educational theatre. Snacks will only be available if donations are made. We can no longer afford the cost of feeding everyone daily without donations.
Production Performance Fee: $100 For CA students: $100 full, $50 for reduced, and $0 for free lunch participants (must be pre-qualified).
Costumes: The cast is responsible for the purchase of their own costumes. We are "Disney-Bounding" for this show. Kids will create Disney "characters" using normal, casual, modern street clothes. Ideas can be found on the Academy of Creativity Pinterest page.
Production Prep and Technical Theatre: $75 For CA students: $75 full, $40 for reduced, and $0 for free lunch participants (must be pre-qualified).
Please remember there is an Ad and Ticket cost to participate that are not included in this fee.
Eligibility Requirements for students: Please see attached sheet on Eligibility.
**If any student cannot fulfill the Eligibility expectations, or do not follow Theatre rules and expectations, they will be asked to step down from the production. They will lose all paid fees.
Parents We love, and NEED Parental Involvement. You are always welcome to any build day and all adult help is welcomed and appreciated. We do ask for a family contribution to our final, mandatory build day (our load in) and our Strike. Because of the unique nature of our department not having access to our performance facility until the Saturday before we perform it is incredible difficult and demanding. We also have the responsibility to return our MPR to its original form after our closing performance. We, truly, need parents, grandparents, siblings, or older friends helping - therefore it is a part of the expectation for your student to participate. This is why we make mandatory a family contribution for those two, specific, times. Arrangements can also be made for other volunteer options. We are flexible and just want your involvement! Please contact Gaby to sign up for a time that works for you.
Lastly, we need very important information from your student. Please register on-line at www.academyofcreativity.org . They will need to give us information about themselves, emergency contact information, any health issues or concerns, known schedule conflicts, their clothes and shoe sizes, and fill out their Bio for our program.
I am so excited to get started and begin to create an incredible theatrical experience for your student and our community as we produce Joy and Inspiration!
