Andi Denton - Instructor
I have over 20 years of experience working in the medical field. I started out, at age 18, as a phlebotomist. From there, I worked in various medical positions. I worked as a Medical Assistant, a life insurance examiner, and a Vascular Ultrasound technician.
I have 10 years of experience in Medical Office Management. Working as a Business Manager gave me leadership experience. That leadership experience paved the way for much of my volunteer work. I have been a parent volunteer for 10 years at Open Classroom, working alongside teachers providing support for the students in the classroom.
In addition to my volunteer work with the Open Classroom, I have volunteered at other Not-for-Profit organizations. I am currently a volunteer for the Red Cross, Greater Salt Lake Chapter. I have volunteered in their home office as well as participated in emergency preparedness scenarios. I have been certified and trained to set-up and run a shelter for the Red Cross in case of a city-wide emergency. I have received the necessary certification and training to be deployed out of state in case of a regional or national disaster. I have also volunteered at The Children’s Center of Utah.
As a Business Manager of a small doctors office, I had the opportunity to learn new skills, as well as keep my previous skills fresh. I handled all aspects of a small business including, human resources, accounting, reception, medical assisting and IT support.
It was there that I first became exposed to the concept of evidence based medicine, and was inspired to further my eucation. An accounting background opened a lot of doors for me, but my heart was always in healthcare.
I obtained my CNA licence, and I graduated from Salt Lake Community College with an Associates Degree, as well as an Associates of Applied Science in Nursing.
I am a Certified Nursing Assistant, a certified Medical Assistant and IV certified. I have been certified in BLS (Basic Life Support) for both civilians and BLS for the Health Care Provider since age 18. Recently, I received my certification in ACLS ( Advanced Care Life Support). My training at the Red Cross of te Greater Salt Lake chapter includes BLS for civilians, as well as BLS for the health-care provider, first aid and pet first aid.
I am a member of the American Nurses Association, and the Utah Nurse's Association.
I am currently working an a Registered Nurse at a Short Term Rehab Facility.
